Simon Oliver Sensei 7th Dan |
Head instructor & Official National Country Representative of Japan Karate Do
Ryobu-Kai United Kingdom. 7th Dan, Shindo Jinen Ryu Simon Oliver is a well known international instructor who also runs the JKR-UK Hombu Dojo in Nottingham. Simon holds qualifications in many martial arts, including several different styles of karate: Jujutsu, Kenjutsu, Iaijutsu, Karate-Jutsu and Aikijutsu. This wide range of skills makes him a very effective instructor in close quarter techniques. Aside from heading our grading panel, Simon regularly teaches at our dojo. For an Englishman growing up in the 1960's Simon began his martial arts career very young; he was already learning Jui Jutsu and Judo from his father and grandfather at the tender age of 6. He moved onto Karate in the late 60's and began to develop a keen interest in Kobujutsu (Old Style Weapons). His training was dramatically redefined upon meeting Terry O'Neill Sensei of the JKA where he would move onto Shotokan and would serve as Sensei O'Neill's Sempai. In Japan in the late 70's Simon would meet Konishi Sensei of the Ryobu-Kan. This would bring about a renewed passion to discover and learn the history and foundations of Japanese and Okinawan martial arts. Whilst still remaining with the JKA, he formed the new 'Zanshin' dojo in Nottingham with the help and encouragement from his friend and mentor, Terry O'Neill Sensei. The world of Karate would be shaken to the core with the untimely death of the great Keinosuke Enoeda Sensei in 2003. This sad event would ultimately catalyse Simon's focus and commitment to promoting and teaching Ryobukai's Shindo Jinen Ryu style of martial arts in the UK. |
